Prayer Flags Series
These prints were inspired by Tibetan prayer flags. I have learned that while the most intricate Tibetan prayer flags are the condensed form of hundreds of pages of religious text, the simplest act of hanging a string of them, no matter who you are or your level of understanding, is believed to confer blessings on you and all who are touched by the wind that touches the flags. Conceptually, the intent of my prints is the same: filled with devotion to the small acts of creating them, my hope is that you don’t have to do anything other than be in their presence to benefit.
Traditionally, prayer flags are arranged in a certain progression of colors, which are symbolic of cardinal directions, Buddhist principles of mind, and the elements. My prayer flags are sequenced in this color progression: blue, white, red, green, yellow. There are seven complete sets, but they also stand alone as individual works. One is a moment, five together are a story.
